UK drug development company saves £25,000 per annum using Enterprise by HansaWorld

ILEX Services, the UK arm of US-based research and drug development company ILEX Oncology, has selected a Enterprise fully integrated accounting, job costing and business management system, a move which will save the company £25,000 per annum. The Enterprise system will be implemented and supported by software business partner, Countdown Systems.

Established in 1999, ILEX Services has not previously had an in-house IT infrastructure and has outsourced management of its finance function to a third party accounting bureau. Having now installed local servers and a local network, the implementation of Enterprise has brought control of the finance function in-house, without requiring the recruitment of new Finance staff.

In addition to offices and laboratories in and ILEX has UK offices in Guildford, Surrey, staffed with qualified professionals that have expertise in the European drug development process. The UK office is responsible for developing and running clinical trials for a portfolio of cancer treatments.

Enterprise is being used to capture all of the costs incurred during each clinical trial, collecting very detailed information via expenses, timesheets and purchase invoicing. This detailed cost analysis is vital as it forms the basis for their itemised billing to their parent company. The multi-currency functionality of HansaWorld Enterprise was very important to ILEX Services to facilitate the conversion of invoices into different currencies.

Angela Giles, Financial Controller at ILEX Services, comments, “Enterprise is very user-friendly and simple to use, even for staff who are not trained accountants. The software allows us to drill-down to a very detailed level of financial information and offers great versatility in reporting. It suits the complexities of our billing requirements and as it is so competitively priced, we are going to recoup our investment extremely quickly.”

Enterprise order was valued in the region of £15,000 and was selected from a range of six other mid-market solutions, ahead of products that included Sage and Access Accounts. The design of Hansa, which uses a single underlying database and application language, was a key factor in the decision-making process. This enables ILEX Services to take advantage of truly integrated financials, job costing and business management modules supported through a single source, which ensures the accuracy and reliability of real-time information. Commenting on the working relationship with reseller, Countdown Systems, Giles explains, “Having started from a position where, as a company we had no IT infrastructure, and as a department we had no experience in the implementation of financial software, it was crucial that we selected not only a well-proven, reliable product, but also an implementation partner that could offer us hands-on expertise and guidance in the early stages. Countdown Systems is providing us with great support and we value their implementation experience, technical skills and knowledge of the Hansa suite of software.”
