Latvian retailer Sedumi switches to Enterprise by HansaWorld to support active growth.

The Company


SIA Sedumi is a retail company operating in Jekabpils, Latvia. The company has several branches: two shops selling heating and plumbing systems, renovation supplies and electrical equipment. Sedumi is also active in growing plants and selling gardening equipment. It was established in 2001 and now has over 40 employees.

The Situation


Sedumi used to work with a small local accounting solution that fulfilled their needs while their operations were small. But opening a new 1500 m2 trade center in the beginning of 2007 brought along a significant growth in business volumes. According to their Chief Accountant Inese Endzele it was essential to have a business system that would have more functions and would be able to handle future growth.

Choosing HansaWorld


“We chose HansaWorld system because of good references and the fact that it could provide all the necessary functions for retail management. It was also very important for us to have detailed financial and stock analysis for different item groups,” Mrs Endzele continued.

Sedumi bought the system in February 2007. Implementation and system adjustments were carried out by HansaWorld's certified partner BSM Konsultanti (now - BMC BALTICS), who according to Mrs Endzele were very competent and easy to work with.

Results


HansaWorld system now handles Sedumi's accounting of several thousand items, controls purchases, stock levels and retail sales.

The system helps to manage retail sales by capturing a lot of detailed information, including who bought what items; handling bonus cards, gift certificates and credit card payments. All sales information is available in the system, making stock management easy.

Sales and stock operations are supported by mobile devices – CHD FiVe, a bar code reader with an on-line HansaWorld client installed. With mobile devices sales people create sales orders directly at the shelf with the customer. Thus, creating a delivery and invoice afterwards is a matter of seconds.

The stock department uses mobile devices to create returned goods or goods receipt documents quickly. As a result, mobile devices save time and allow Sedumi to offer better customer service.

Future Plans


Sedumi plans to first bring all their business into the system and to start using the full potential of integrated Purchase and Payroll modules. After that they are considering to add the Production management module to follow up the gardening branch and its costs.
