Hidroeléctrica Boliviana Inc. (HB) was established in 1996 and is running several power stations in Bolivia. For more information about HB, visit the company's web site www.hidrobol.com

Situation


In 2003, Hidroeléctrica Boliviana Inc. started a search for an enterprise resource planning system. Enterprise was competing against products like IAS, SIA, SIGAF, OPTIMIX, SAFI and NEOTEC.

Among the most important factors for making the decision were compatibility with the operative model of HB, the support of all process and functions, integration and automation between them, flexibility, scalability and system security. Other demands included remote and mobile access, compatibility, hardware requirements and ease of use. The economic factors regarding acquisition costs, implementation, operation, maintenance and updates were also part of the decision making process.

Choosing Enterprise by HansaWorld


After evaluation of all the competing products, Hidroeléctrica Boliviana Inc. chose Enterprise as their new business solution.

For Hidroeléctrica Boliviana Inc. the Enterprise project consisted of the implementation of a large variety of modules and special functions. It also included custom development of a set of functions focused on reports and routines.

The New Era




“As with any big project, the implementation of Enterprise was not exempt of complications,” remembers Martín Sainz. “Nevertheless, with the effort, competence and professionalism showed by the personnel of both companies, the difficulties were overcome.”



Trainings were organised so that key users could later provide additional guidance to other users.

Currently Hidroeléctrica Boliviana S.A. has 24 named users and has implemented the following modules of Enterprise:

HB also uses remote access with multi-user WAN functionality, and HAL (Hansa Application Language) for customisations regarding budget controls.

Benefits and Future Plans


After having used the system for more than two years, the benefits are a clear reflection of the integration and flexibility of the software:

- More and better quality information, allowing for a more efficient decision making process;
- Integrity and integration of the information provided by the system. Before Enterprise the data was scattered and the results not trustworthy.
Better control over business processes, with a direct result in the improved performance of the company.



When discussing future plans, Martín Sainz explained: “There are new functions that we have decided to include, however this will be a gradual process. We also have plans to improve and empower the existing functions.”
